George Kafantaris is a Greek photographer specializing in scientific imaging, high-resolution macro photography, photogrammetry, and the digital documentation of geological and cultural heritage collections.

His work focuses on revealing structures, textures, and details that often remain invisible through conventional imaging methods, using techniques such as UV fluorescence photography, focus stacking, and 3D reconstruction. Working between science and visual storytelling, he combines technical precision with artistic interpretation in order to document both natural and historical subjects with clarity and depth.

With experience in museum environments, scientific institutions, and demanding field conditions — including underground mines and cave systems — his work explores the intersection of geology, archaeology, material culture, and image-based preservation.

Over the years, he has collaborated with institutions including the Musée du Louvre, the École française d'Athènes, the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (EAGME), the National Geological Museum, and the Mineralogical Museum of Lavrion, contributing to scientific imaging projects, museum documentation, mineral photography, and digital preservation initiatives.

Alongside his institutional and scientific collaborations, George continues to develop independent long-term photographic projects exploring underground landscapes, geological heritage, memory, abandoned spaces, and the hidden textures of the natural world.
